Jason Qin has been busy with Linear Algebra with Applications classes at Yale University, while juggling his time between finals at IMSA and the American Regions Math League at Iowa. He is excited to report on his first and second weeks at Yale.

Eleven outstanding high school students have earned merit-based scholarships from the Garwin Family Foundation (GFF) to attend highly selective enrichment programs in STEM and the Fine Arts.

Arkaprabha Kolay attended “Introduction to Programming with Machine Learning” at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. The 3-week online course was taught via the “Canvas” system. The course focused on understanding machine learning based on the Python language — a branch of AI learning based on the idea that systems can fully function through coding.

Yoonseo Jung is enrolled in a Number Theory course at Stanford University. Students attend live class sessions via Zoom, then work on assignments solving rigorous math problems.

Emily Jung attended a 3-week course in Economics at the University of Chicago’s Pathways program. The course, taught via Zoom sessions, was an introduction to rigorous Chicago-style economics, where students learned about four critical fields of economics: price theory, game theory, experimental economics, and macroeconomics.

Jason Qin reports that his first week at Awesome Math was very exciting, where he learned many “new and amazing” math concepts.

Longmei Ge has been loving her first week attending the “Collegiate Writing: Awakening into Consciousness” course at the University of Chicago. According to Longmei, the class has been both challenging and interesting, with classmates encouraging each other to work hard.

Michelle Wang has been busy learning about drone theory, math, and computer vision during her first two weeks of the Autonomous Air Racing program at MIT Beaverworks.

Jayla Ware enjoyed a “hands-on, enriching learning experience” at the University of Florida Climate Change Resiliency Program.

Samuel Wang reports on his experiences while attending “Introduction to Pharmacology” at the University of North Carolina.

Alexander Brown is enjoying his Art and Design course at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Alex is one of 25 students who are also attending the program which includes drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture classes.

Elaina Xaio is enrolled in the Artificial Intelligence course at Stanford’s Pre-Collegiate Studies program. During her first week, Elaina participated in Zoom sessions from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Carbondale Community School Library, followed by office hours with her instructor.
