Ian Kinsel spent his summer at Students and Teachers as Research Scientists (STARS) in St. Louis, where he focused on photovoltaic biomaterials. Not only did he conduct six weeks of hands-on engineering research, he read scientific papers, wrote a research paper on his findings, and gave a presentation on his project. In addition, his learning went beyond the laboratory and the lecture hall; Ian developed independent-living skills, preparing him for college life.
