The Garwin Family Foundation honors our alumni scholarship program recipients—Lauren Fakhoury, Jason Qin, and Elaina Xiao—who have recently graduated from the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA):

Lauren Fakhoury

Last summer, as a GFF Student Scholarship program recipient, Lauren studied Latin at CUNY and enjoyed the New York City experience. Lauren will return to NYC this fall to attend New York University. She plans to double major in politics and economics.

In the interim, Lauren will work as a counselor this summer at Touch of Nature’s Camp Little Giant and enjoy many books on her reading list.

Jason Qin

Last summer, Jason studied Linear Algebra at Yale University and Quantum Software at the MIT BeaverWorks Summer Institute as a GFF Student Scholarship program recipient.

This fall, Jason will study Computer Science or Applied Mathematics at Columbia University as an Egleston Scholar. He looks forward to trying new things and expanding his horizons, especially within the vibrant community of New York City. He chose Columbia where he can expand his horizons and engage with countless diverse perspectives in a global environment.

Elaina Xiao

Last summer as a GFF Student Scholarship program recipient, Elaina attended Designing for Assistive Technology at the MIT BeaverWorks Summer Institute.

This fall, she will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to study computer science, specifically machine learning. While attending U of I, Elaina will continue her focus on medicine and technology.
