Rea Yoh, a 2016 GFFer, is presently a sophomore at Brown University, where she is active in biomedical research, medical volunteer work, and competitive dance. This summer, Rea joined a research lab, which focuses on stem cells—the same area that she studied during her GFF-sponsored enrichment program, also at Brown. Specifically, the lab in which she is working studies the sorting methods for adipose-derived stem cells based on the surface proteins that they express.
Outside of academics and research, Rea uses her Spanish-speaking skills as a front-desk translator for La Clinica Esperanza, a free clinic offering care to the region’s underserved, and as a board member of the Brown Medical Brigade, an organization providing no-cost medical services to rural communities in Honduras.
Rea has also explored new endeavors while at Brown, including competitive dancing. She joined the Brown team, practices daily, and has found a passion for both Latin and ballroom dance. She and her partner have placed in various competitions.
