While in quarantine due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Maya has been keeping busy with her school work in English, Biology, and French via Zoom meetings. ”I really enjoy the Zoom meetings, as they provide stimulating discussions that I otherwise would have missed. I’ve found that this unexpected break is sort of nice for AP tests, since I have a lot of time to study. I’ve also started to take cello lessons over Zoom, which are not ideal, but I’m glad I can still keep up my musical education through quarantine,” Maya explains.

Maya has also been composing music during the past few weeks. “I’m working on editing my cello quartet, as I found a publisher who was interested in publishing my piece after I contacted her. I’m also planning on writing a piece (possibly a violin-cello duet) for my sister as a graduation gift. I began a cello duet as well for my cello teacher, Dr. Lenz, which I plan to give to him as a gift when I graduate next year,” Maya adds.

Recently, Maya and family performed for the Empty Concert Series in Marion, Illinois, providing entertainment for the public during social distancing requirements.

In addition, Maya has been working on a mosaic puzzle, cooking with family, making cards for her grandparents, reading, blogging about her experiences, connecting with friends via Netflix, and thinking of ways she might contribute to the community during the quarantine.

Stay safe and be well Maya!
