Longmei is taking five honors classes this semester, which means a sizable amount of homework, yet still manages to find time to participate in Math Team, Scholar Bowl, Student Council, LifeSavers, Key Club German Club (even though she takes Spanish), and the Terrier Historical Society. She also competed at sectionals as a member of the varsity Tennis Team. Her work in a microbiology lab at Southern Illinois University continues, and she is also participating in Science Fair this year, “partly because it’s required for Honors Chem, and partly because it was awesome last year.”

Along with several other students, Longmei attended a Youth Advisory Committee hosted by Senator Paul Schimpf. She has “rediscovered” her adoration of reading, and has stepped into a leadership position promoting reading activities at CCHS feeder schools in collaboration with Ms. Taylor, the school librarian.

Playing the piano and hiking with her parents on weekends are how she de-stresses from her full, and sometimes hectic academic life.

Longmei (second from the right, top row) participates in a "Special Olympics Awareness Plane Pull" event at the airport in Murphysboro.
