In his senior year at Drexel, Kian has been writing songs “with feverish intensity.” He has been working on a music project that he considers to be his best work to date. As part of his senior project, Kian has been developing a short album in collaboration with his best friend and roommate. “We chose to work on a project together because we are both accustomed to making our music in complete solitude. We thought that exploring the world of collaboration would be informative, exciting, and enlightening. So far, we’ve been correct. The songs sound great and we are both teaching each other a lot about our respective workflows, approaches, and mentalities,” Kian explains.
In addition, Kian has been collaborating with a friend at school who, Kian says, “is a talented songwriter and producer in her own right. We do a lot of writing together, critiquing and supplementing each others’ songs as we play them together. Her astute ear for backup harmonies has begun to work its way into a couple of my own songs,” Kian adds.
While at Drexel, Kian has developed a solid group of musician friends for collaboration and artistic support. “My friends are an invaluable source of confidence and inspiration. I’ve also been playing drums in this Indie rock band for a couple months. When I first started they were pretty small, but slowly but surely they are really starting to pick up steam. A couple months ago we played a show in Montreal to a crowd of over 600 people… and just the other day we played a show in New Jersey and sold it out within half an hour. It seems like they are on a promising trajectory and I’ve been assured that if they go on tour, I’m their guy,” Kian says.
Kian will be graduating soon and is preparing to take on the challenges of a career in music. “I know I have something extremely valuable to contribute to music. The best I can do is keep pushing on full steam ahead, barreling quickly and violently into the great unknown,” Kian says.
