A rising junior at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), 2014 GFFer James Cradit is majoring in industrial design with a concentration in computation, technology, and culture at the same school where he attended his GFF-sponsored enrichment program.
This past year, James began a research project at the Providence Athenaeum, which was visited by Edgar Allen Poe. James is developing a concept for new furniture that would foster community and better utilize the library’s space. He will present the finished design to library staff in the fall of 2018. This summer, James is participating in two internships. The first is with DownCity Design, a Providence, RI, program that offers community building, high school job training, and build projects with design-thinking strategies. Specifically, James will serve as a design educator, working with 8-to-11-year-old students who will model environmentally sustainable strategies to identified local problems. James’s second internship is at Greenwich Interiors in Greenwich, CT. There, James will focus on web design, as well as sustainable material sourcing and design solutions. James is enjoying his studies at RSID and tells us that: “It’s so great to see the Foundation continuing to foster students’ educational experiences!” |
