We are happy to share news and photos from GFF Alumnus Evan Wiggs, a Herrin High School 2025 graduate, who is currently studying astrophysics at Columbia University in New York City. Evan says that after settling in, he is “walking the streets like an official, very busy New Yorker.”

“I really do love it here. I was taking some time to reflect, and I feel like I’ve grown so much not only as a person here, but a soul. What a truly enriching experience this has been, and the best part is it’s only beginning. I’m excelling in my classes, and the deep intensity of them is beyond riveting,” Evan reports.

“I was reading a book titled “The Hidden Reality,” by world renowned superstring physicist Brian Greene; it’s elaborate, complex, gripping, and hints at the very music of the cosmos itself. Tomorrow, in my Frontiers of Science course, Brian Greene will be giving a lecture on General Relativity, and I can barely contain my excitement! The opportunities are endless,” Evan says.

“I continue to send my thanks to the both of you, and all those who came before you, to make such an opportunity as this possible. So far, the go-to bagel is everything, toasted, with cream cheese, tomato, salt, and pepper. Again, thank you both so much.  Life is beyond amazing,” Evan adds.

We are so happy to hear that your first semester at Columbia University is off to a great start, and wish you much success!
