The Garwin Family Foundation congratulates Maya Benyas, Charlie Du, and Eli Tsung recently named as National Merit Semifinalists. They will join 16,000 semifinalists competing for Class of 2021 National Merit Scholarships.
The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. The program receives approximately 1.5 million high school entries each year. Of the 1.5 million entrants, the program chose 16,000 high school students to be named as semifinalists—those who scored highest on 2020 PSAT/NMSQT assessments within each state. This number represents less than 1 percent of all U.S. high school seniors.
Next, Maya Benyas, Charlie Du, and Eli Tsung will complete a comprehensive application to be considered for National Merit Finalist standing which will be announced in February 2021. Their applications will allow them to compete for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $30 million to be awarded in Spring 2021. Finalist honors also allow students access to specific corporate and college/university scholarships.
To be named as a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist is quite an accomplishment. We are so proud of our GFF alumni!
