Elaina Xaio is enrolled in the Artificial Intelligence course at Stanford’s Pre-Collegiate Studies program. During her first week, Elaina participated in Zoom sessions from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Carbondale Community School Library, followed by office hours with her instructor.

For many it is a time of sleeping in, enjoying a local swimming hole and just taking it easy, focusing on anything but academics. But for 10 students affiliated with Carbondale Community High School, summer is a time to explore topics ranging from number theory to artificial intelligence and pharmacology to climate change.
Ten outstanding Carbondale high school students have earned merit-based scholarships from the Garwin Family Foundation (GFF) to attend highly selective enrichment programs in STEM and the Fine Arts.
The Garwin Family Foundation celebrates alumni GFF scholarship recipients Maya Benyas, Charlie Du, Ananth Panchamuhki, and Eli Tsung, who have successfully completed their studies.
Maya has been busy collecting awards and accomplishments since we last spoke with her.
