Arkaprabha Kolay has been busy with science and math projects this year. In early March, he participated in a Science Fair at Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale, Illinois. His project was titled The Spectroscopic Study of Natural Plant-Based pH Indicators. “Basically, I tested different pH indicators on day to day items and tested the wavelength of absorbed light, to determine pH. My experiment was done with a professor at SIU which was also a really good learning experience for me,” Arkaprabha explains.

“Due to that, I got to work in a real lab, which made me feel like a scientist. My project was also selected for the state competition and I received the gold award. Overall, it was a really fun experience and I learned many things,” Arkaprabha adds.

In February, Arkaprabha participated in an ICTM math competition at SIU-E in Edwardsville, Illinois. “Our team overall got first, and individually, I placed 3rd in the geometry competition… This also qualified me for the state competition coming up. The trip overall was also very fun. I had a great time and good experience there at SIU-E,” Arkaprabha reports.

We wish Arkaprabha much success in the upcoming state competition!
