Representatives of the Garwin Family Foundation (GFF) and Carbondale Community High School (CCHS) shared the successes of the unique Student Sponsorship Program for Talented Students in the Arts, Sciences, and Math during the 85th Annual Joint Illinois Association of School Boards, Illinois Association of School Administrators, and the Illinois Association of School Business Officials Conference, held in Chicago in mid-November.

The presentation, entitled “Public-Private Partnerships and High-Achieving Students,” was given by CCHS Superintendent Steve Murphy, CCHS Counseling Chair Erinn Murphy, GFF Associate Director Kit Ryan, GFF Director Dr. Marsha Ryan, and GFF Program Administrator Michele Mekel. The talk covered: unmet need for gifted students; the GFF’s mission, interest, and development of this one-of-a-kind program; specific programmatic structure and operational details; and internal CCHS processes for successful program integration.
